The men of this tribe live in this rock cave – there are many communities of Hadza, living in different small villages , but all in the main area of Lake Eyasi. They are hunters and gathers and must hunt for food. You have an opportunity to go with them. On my hunt, they only caught a squirrel on the morning hunt. But, it was fascinating to watch them. Most of the hunt, you’re walking, trying to keep up with them. To watch them and be there was a once in a lifetime experience.

Before they begin the hunt, all the young boys will make their arrows, decorate them – that’s how they know which arrow killed whatever the hunt is. Sometimes it’s a Bird, other times a larger animal. Many of the very large animals are gone, so it’s often the smaller squirrels, rabbits, birds that get more hunted.

These young kids have just caught a squirrel – and I watched the entire hunt. One young boy about 14 caught it, chased it down and caught it….using the tail as a feather in his cap, or headpiece, he proudly sports to other members, the tribe enjoys their small feast. Yes, they offer a piece to me, but I am a vegetarian – on this day.

Another phase of the process in melting the object to formulate whatever is being made. In this case, they took a small padlock, like the one that resulted in my stirrer – and created a unique pattern on it. It was amazing!
